Vastu for a house plan
Vastu, as commonly taught, puts the kitchen in the south-east, the master bedroom in the south-west and the puja room in the north-east, and keeps the centre open. Below: every room, the entrance for each plot facing, and where the published guides disagree.
Where each room goes
Vastu is a tradition, not an engineering code. We follow it as far as your plot allows, never at the cost of light, air or a sound structure.

The main door by plot facing
Every facing works with the right plan; the guides only move the door along the front.

Common questions on vastu
Where should the kitchen be as per vastu?
In the south-east, cooking facing east, in every guide we checked. The north-west is the usual second choice; the north-east is avoided.
Which direction is best for the master bedroom?
The south-west, in all the guides. They differ on the sleeping direction: head to the south or east in one, to the south or west in another.
Where should the puja room go?
In the north-east, which all the guides agree on.
Where can toilets go as per vastu?
Most guides say the north-west; some also allow the south-east or east. All of them say never the north-east or the centre of the house.
Is a south-facing or west-facing house bad as per vastu?
No. The guides say every facing works with the right plan: on a south-facing plot the door goes in the south-east part, on a west-facing plot in the west or north-west part.
Can every vastu rule fit on a small plot?
Rarely all at once. On a narrow plot the kitchen and master bedroom often share a wall, and on a south- or west-facing plot the entrance and parking take the side the guides keep for the bedroom and stairs. We place the rooms that matter most to you first.
Does vastu override building rules?
No. Bye-laws still decide light and air: Delhi's, for example, ask for windows of at least one-tenth of the floor area in every living room and kitchen, and an outside wall or shaft for every toilet, whatever its direction.
