- The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) inside city limits, under UDCPR. In June 2011 TMC opened an online portal where architects submit building plans, checked by AutoDCR software. Under UDCPR, the owner and a registered architect, town planner or licensed engineer sign every drawing.
- Plot sizes
- Maharashtra's building rules, UDCPR, measure plots in square metres (1 sq m ≈ 10.76 sq ft). Most homes in Thane are flats and independent houses are few: listings seen in October 2026 showed bungalows in Vasant Vihar, Owale, Savarkar Nagar and on Ghodbunder Road, one of them on a 270 sq yd plot.
- Climate
